We purchased an opal necklace from this jeweler. As is typical in many places, the salesman bargained on price when we said the price was more than we wanted to pay. He reduced the price approximately 30% ($1200 USD), and said that he couldn’t go lower, the value was in the fire opal.

Over the next few days, the necklace was shown to other jewelers. Every jeweler said it was a synthetic “fake” opal, of no real value. This made us worry that we had been scammed. Our receipt even said no returns. Would an honest company do that?

We searched for a jeweler with an honest reputation. We found a 3rd generation family run jeweler, in business for over 50 years, only 4 blocks from Joyería Yoler. We took the necklace there for an evaluation on the opal. They said it was clearly a synthetic “fake” opal. This jeweler urged use to try to return the necklace. They pointed out our receipt was falsely stating the opal was a real fire opal.

We then went to Joyería Yoler to tell the story of the evaluation, and ask for a refund. The store was full of customers. We were quickly walked out of the store. The salesman asked us to take him to the other jeweler. We walked the 4 blocks. The other jeweler stated his evaluation of the opal to the Joyería Yoler salesman, and the salesman agreed to accept our return.

We returned to Joyería Yoler, expecting a credit card refund. Instead, they said they couldn’t issue the credit, and we would need to call the credit card company for the refund.

We gave them back the necklace. While still in the store, we called the credit card company to report we had given back the necklace, explain the situation, and would like them to issue a credit.

STAY AWAY-FAR AWAY! I was defrauded by this store IN DECEMBER 2018. The man who waited on me, Ernesto Guevara Serrano continually told me that the rings I wanted were less than $1,000-he said it was around $650 and the other ring I wanted was about $290. None of the prices were in dollars, just pesos. The receipt I signed only gave a total amount, not the price for each ring. The receipt clearly says "once out of the store no returns". I must admit I did not read that part, trusting that the amount shown in pesos would be around $1200.00. I was on a cruise and left later that day without questioning the accuracy of the prices. (MY BAD) I was shocked to get a credit card charge for $3,500! I immediately had the rings appraised locally (in Santa Monica CA). One ring appraised at $1200 while the other appraised for $400. The total was $1,600 NOT $3,500! My credit card company said this was not disputable because I signed the receipt. Please make sure you get the price quoted in "dollars" not pesos! Better yet DON'T SHOP AT THIS STORE!

STAY AWAY. Purchased Opal which turned out to be 1/3 the weight I paid for and an Emerald that turned out to be fake. AUTHENTICATED by GIA GEMOLOGICAL INSTIUTE OF AMERICA - New York.

Been shopping at Yoler for several years, and never pass it by wherever I'm staying in Puerto Vallarta. If you want a one stop place for silver, they have a massive selection in open displays and some high end gold and precious jewel pieces too. They have a jeweler who can do custom work. I held back one star because they are a bit pricier than some places. The variety and quality make up for that.

After buying jewelry in three Puerto Vallarta stores I can assure you avoid this store. Rude, high pressure, inflated pricing to pay their 15 sales people. You won't find them in the top 20 in TripAdvisor or any other review forum and there's a reason for that.
