Fabuloso. That's the name of the cleaner you can smell all over Mexico. They even use it on the street! They certainly use it at Costa Club as well, the smell is hard to get away from.

Unfortunately it doesn't apply to much else at the hotel. My friend and I were staying in one of their two bedroom suites. As a three star hotel I didn't expect much and the rooms were pretty much that, but the pictures had shown a small kitchen with microwave and fridge, and it didn't have anything in the kitchen at all. I would have expected at least a coffee maker. We spoke to management about it and they said that because it had gone all inclusive, the kitchens were all removed.

The staff, on the other hand, were all very pleasant. After a couple of days, we had a waiter greet us as we came down to breakfast with our coffee and juice on the table. The cleaning staff were also very nice, most days our room had been cleaned by the time we got back from breakfast. Other than an over-enthusiasm for the above mentioned cleaner, they were great.

The food left a lot to be desired. We were there over Christmas and New Years, and the meals for those night were quite good, but other days were sub-par. It's the food that mostly contributes to the 2 star review. We had heard the hotel caters more to Mexicans than tourists from other countries, so we expected medium quality Mexican food, but in general it was barely edible. While out around the city we had meals at inexpensive fast-food type restaurants that were vastly superior.

There is one speciality restaurant which served Italian food that was quite good, but I think I might have known more about Italian cuisine than the staff there. We had quite a few meals there and pretty much ran the menu as it was not extensive.

The mixed drinks were all using artificial sweetener (or perhaps stevia) which left a strange after taste in everything. I suspect this may be due to a sugar tax that has been added to Mexican soft drinks. The beers available were okay, we mostly stuck with the darker one, Indio. The wines were barely drinkable (don't get me wrong, we drank a lot of it!) but this is not uncommon in Mexico.

As for location, it was a half hour walk from the Malecón, hard to beat for convenience. While the buses were a bit uncomfortable if you got one of the older ones, they would get you around very cheaply. Even getting an Uber back to the hotel was usually very low cost.

Over all, not recommended, but hard to beat the price for a two bedroom suite.
